How To Know When To Take The Leap

When I first started out in my business I truly felt like a tiny fish in a very large pond. There were SO many other people out there with years’ more experience than me. And they all seemed to know what they were doing.

They were all talking about lead magnets, and sales funnels and squeeze pages.

Say what?

I didn’t know what half the terms meant, let alone how to implement them.

take the leap

Of course, over time I completed online trainings, watched webinars, read books, and generally learnt as much as I could about running an online business.

But I always felt like there was so much more to learn.

I couldn’t imagine ever feeling like I was ready to properly launch my business in a big way like other successful entrepreneurs I followed.

So for a long time I was kind of just treading water. Doing bits of journalism, with bits of PR and copywriting here and there.

And because I didn’t feel like my business was moving forwards, I really didn’t feel ready to do the things I needed to do to take my business forward. Catch-22.

Professional-looking website? I’ll get one when I’ve secured more clients. New photos? I’ll do it when I’m making more money. New branding? I’ll wait a bit longer. Upgrading from ‘freemium’ to paid services for things like social media management, online scheduling, sales page creation? I’ll wait until my business has grown before I pay out for them.

The problem with this way of thinking, is that you need to take all these steps to get your business to where you want it to be. Not the other way round.

Waiting for your business to grow big enough that you can justify paying for all these things is a futile exercise, because you need to pay for these things to enable your business to grow!

Of course, it took me a while to figure this out for myself.

There’s an old saying:

“Leap, and the net will appear”

In most areas of life, business included, this is definitely true.

For me personally, when I took that leap and realised that waiting for the perfect time to upgrade my website/get new photos/work with a coach wasn’t a good strategy, that’s when the magic really began to happen.

In the past few months I’ve re-branded my business, got a new site and new professional photos, and worked with a coach to really up my game. And already it’s paying off, as I now have the business I always dreamed of.

So if you’re wondering when the perfect time to do X is, know that it’s not when you’re earning a certain amount, or when you’ve lost 10lb, or when you’ve secured ten new clients. The perfect time to take that leap, is now.

So tell me, what leap are you going to take next? Leave a comment and let me know.
